The neon sign in his editing room that says "It's complicated" should probably be standard equipment for anyone trying to understand history. Burns basically spent a decade being surprised daily while making this and that humilty about the material is what makes his work land so hard. I've been thinking about that Twain line abouthistry rhyming lately because we keep acting like contemporary problems are brand new when the pattern recognition is right there if you bother to look.

Haym Soloman who gave millions of dollars to the Revolutionary War, to keep soldiers fed, clothed, housed, etc, and was never repaid, was conspicuously absent from this reporting. All paths led to Haym. He's well known for his contributions to our country. In ten years of research, he should have shown up and been honored. I hate to think that the fact he was Jewish had something to do with his absence.
